Cannot understand texas history if one does not understand texas as a whole. After 1845 the largest population group came from the lower south (mississippi, louisiana, 1845 african americans and anglos were the largest groups moving into texas. For a time the largest group of immigrants coming to texas was african americans. Not the largest number but largest strength. Slavery was still legal at this time. Fairly large immigration from central europe (in some places, they were the largest groups) After 1890 to 1945, there was increased arrival of mexican immigrants. San antonio become greatly influenced by mexican speakers. By 1910, 1920, 1930 there is a great migration of african americans out of texas. Cluster migration did not move to texas because of only economic reason but also because of cultural reasons.
