What goes into determining which media you consume. Questions about media effects: capitalist economy: pro t vs. non-pro t, individual media different effects, corporate control + content (movies, tv, radio, search engine results, etc. , political, cultural, economic agenda=reality, policy decisions. Cultural conversation/political repercussions: guns, violent imagery in music, video games, tv, moves, parenting, mental illness, gender/race, aggrieved entitlement/notions of masculinity, bushmaster: consider your man card reissued . Do video games change your brain: some studies have shown increased aggression after violent games/others say other factors more signi cant, but: no de nitive causal link to real-world violence. Some examples of actual media effects: stereotypes/hate speech, televised wars, 16 and pregnant, fiji & tv, brazil & telenovelas, india, cable tv & women"s status, elections: weaponization of information, sow doubt, weaken cohesion, stir discord. Early media research methods: observation, propaganda analysis, public opinion research, social psychology studies, marketing research.
