In states, parties and their affairs are regulated. Ballot access laws were put in place to determine if a party or candidate will appear on an election ballot. With this law comes many arguments supporting and disagreeing with it. Some of the pros of the ballot access laws is that it prevents non-serious frivolous candidacies. The purpose of the primary election compared to the general election is to select a candidate to go forward to the general election. Some of the different kinds of primary systems that the state"s use are closed, open, semi-open, mixed, and blanket primaries. Out of the different systems, texas has a semi-opened primary. However, parties and candidates prefer closed primaries because there would not be any room for crossover voting and raiding: which partisans (i. e. party members or identifiers) comprise a greater proportion of the. A greater proportion of the texas electorate is compromised by democrats more than republicans.
