Every single thing you experience is a production of your brain and nervous system: groundwork for everything else we will study . Neuroscience provides tools for understanding things later on. Electricity & chemicals: if one aspect is interfered with, then whole system is compromised, any foreign chemical introduced to the body can cause chemical interference. Ex: ca eine, cold medicine, alcohol, drugs, etc. Neurotransmitters must remain balanced: electrocution causes death bc neurotransmission system is blown out, electro convulsive therapy. Peripheral nervous system: limbs; extend from spinal chord. Neurons: building blocks of internal communication, basic cell that makes up the nervous system, receives & sends messages within that system, average neuron has 1,000-10,000 contacts with other neurons. That"s a heck of a lot: parts of a neuron. Dendrite: bushy, branching extensions of a neuron that receive messages from other neurons & conduct them to the soma (cell body, points of contact with other neurons, messages passed are neurotransmitters.
