Don"t memorize the chart- understand how thompson figured it out. Hm famous case- had epilepsy located in hippocampus, when they removed the hippocampus it inhibited long-term memory. Was able to recall short term memory but couldn"t remember new pieces of information. What does the hippocampus do in eyeblink studies. Makes a temporal map of the cs and us based on the physiological activities. Story was being built around the hippocampus. Decerebration- take out everything above the mid-brain. Leave brain stem, cerebellum, and mid brain. Will continue to live and act but something wont seem right about the rat. Learning and memory must exist in the cerebellum and brain stem- they are essential. How do we figure out what nuclide undermine learning and memory: diagram b. Underlies the us that generates the learning. Cs (tone) comes in from auditory nuclei. If you block interpositus nucleus- will not learn about tone or have a response: advantages of the eyeblink paradigm.
