Function: take a character created by a playwright and turn them into a living, breathing, human being. Aristotle"s definition: the right management of the voice to express various emotions. Acting = infusing a character with the life of an actor. Comedia del arte and french acting troupe. Dance, martial arts, fencing, stage combat, tumbling, yoga, tai chi. Breathing techniques, vocal technique (pitch, volume, and resonance), languages, dialects, international phonetic alphabet, singing. Memorization, emotional awareness, imagination, empathy, awareness of surroundings and others, ability to analyze information quickly. System was born out of a quest for realism in acting. Referred to as the father of method acting . Access of sense memory: leads to method acting. Method acting: create real emotions under imaginary circumstances like relaxation, concentration, sense memory, effective memory. Reality of doing, moment to moment acting. Emotions projected through formal gestures, postures, and physical attitudes.
