Pasteurization: reducing the amount of bacteria to a safe level of consumption. Other ways of sterilization: uv light, microwaves, x-rays, gamma rays Anything with electrons that will reduce the growth of microbial growth. The amount of light must be a safe amount to remove the surface of the objects being sterilized. These methods are heavily used to clean tools within industries. Ionization radiation causes the breaking off of radicals that have the possibility to cause errors in dna due to forced replication of the certain gaps being formed from the radiation (ex: cathode ray tubes, x-rays, radioactive nuclides) Used sometimes for food to remove possible harmful microbes. Filtration avoids the use of heat on sensitive liquids and gases: pores too small for organisms to pass through, but allow for liquid and gas to pass through.
