Document Summary

Examples: mutated brca1 and brca2 associated with breast and ovarian cancers. Proto-oncogene (for a protein that stimulates cell division) A benign condition if the abnormal cells stay in their original location. A malignant tumor if the abnormal cells spread from their original location. Frequent division: skin, lining of digestive tract. Growth factors (proteins) stimulate cell division nutrient availability. Density: when a cell population reaches a certain density, the amount of required growth factors and nutrients available to each cell becomes insufficient to allows counties cell growth. Anchorage: for most animal cells to divide, they must be attached to the extracellular matrix of a tissue. Produces 2 diploid daughter cells from 1 diploid parent cell. Daughter cells have same amount of dna as parent cell which includes 2 copies of each gene since they are diploid. Daughter cells go through cell cycle again or go into g0. Produces 4 haploid daughter cells = gametes (egg or sperm)- from 1 diploid parent cell.
