Very rare/infrequent for an of cer to draw their service weapon. Police profession: blue curtain 6 core beliefs. Dif cult to win the war against crime. Police personality: of cers develop unique personality traits. Cynical: negative values/attitudes cause of cers to buy into blue curtains, nature of the work causes traits to develop. Policing styles: emerge out of experience and interpretation, styles. Crime fighter - investigate serious crimes and apprehend criminals. Social agent - police believe people should be involved to catching criminals: aspire to be a social worker. Law enforcer - set out in law, know the laws/rules/procedures, plays by the book: aspires to be a ranking of cer. Watchman - maintain the public order, will respond if public order is jeopardized: aspire to be a patrol of cer. Police discretion: factors that shape discretion. Legal factors - offense driven (seriousness of offense/legal and victim factors) Victim factors - relationship between the offender.
