Lighting is not about control of light, lighting is about control of shadow: that is what you are looking at and what you are paying attention to. Why is this: a screen is 2-dimensional, so shadows give it that depth, even lighting will create no shadows which cause spheres to look two dimensional, uneven lighting will help give the third dimension (pg. (1) attached: whatever the subject is, the shadow is physically attached to it, shadow is projected on the subject, tell us a(cid:271)out a(cid:374) o(cid:271)je(cid:272)t"s shape. (2) cast: shadow is projected on the environment, ex. Shadow on the street: tell us the o(cid:271)je(cid:272)t"s lo(cid:272)atio(cid:374) or e(cid:374)(cid:448)iro(cid:374)(cid:373)e(cid:374)t. The distance between the brightest part of the subject and the darkest part of the subject. Fast: very bright, and suddenly goes to black, the contrast/distance is very fast. Slow: light slowly descends into blackness. Light comes from 3 directions: does not refer to the number of instruments but instead the direction.
