The white collar workers are people with professional jobs. They are in danger of losing employment because companies are continuously combining and letting people go since they don"t need as many workers. He says this because most indians were supposed to be stupid, and so when a smart indian was found this was rare. Especially alexie"s father plays against this stereotype because he is described as being interactive with books all the time. He loves to read and with any spare money he has continues to buy books causing him to continue to gain intelligence. The author is trying to create an argument by saying that comics have a type of power that no other type of art has. Comics are not able to be used to their full potential though. Comic artists seem to stay even with other artists and not surpass their abilities.
