Men and women on average work different positions, have different incomes, inequality of political power. Sex- biological distinction between males (xy) and females (xx) All embryos begin on a trajectory toward being female. Sexes aren"t differentiated until fetuses produce sex hormones. Sry on the y chromosome initiates male sex differentiation. If the hormones are not introduced, it will be female. Swyer syndrome- xy chromosomes, but appearance is female. Gender- personal traits and social positions that members of society attach to being male or female. Gender roles- set of behavioral norms assumed to accompany one"s status as male or female. Gender identity- one"s personal experience of one"s own gender. Gender expression- the way a person expresses their identity (appearance, dress, behavior) Form of social organization in which females are dominant over males.
