11­1­12 • Inheritance patterns of linked genes o On the same chromosome o Less likely to be crossed over separately • Crossing over between homologous chromosomes o When crossed, the male progeny from this cross:  4 classes of male progeny, so genes are not absolutely linked  progeny are not present in equal numbers, so they do not assort  independently • if genes are completely linked, all gametes will be parental genotype o if linked but crossing over can occur, 50% parental 50% recombinant o increased crossover frequency correlates with increased distance between  genes o Alfred Sturtevant
