Taiwan represented china at the un for a while when the us and china were not getting along. Taiwan is now left out of chinese politics, but is not a sovereign unit, and is usually represented by china. Now, direct passage between china (beijing) and taiwan is available and taiwan is more involved. Taiwan has a president that is elected; which doesn"t always match up politically with china. Taiwan is a source for high technology goods, and is the headquarters for many technology companies. Taiwan still has an indigenous population, even after china invaded under mao and han. Very hold- people have been living here for thousands of years. Mostly controlled by china, but was controlled by the british from colonial times. Much of hong kong islands are not inhabited, the areas that are, are the densest in the world. People have inhabited the island since the stone age. Little island that juts out the south of china.
