Chapter 1: the scope of life and emergent properties. Homeostasis: grow and develop, use energy, respond to the environment, reproduce, populations evolve. These seven classifications of living things will be on the test. Three main groups of life called domains: eukarya, bacteria, archae. Eukaryote are organisms with a true nucleus. The word is derived from a latin verb meaning to know . It is: a way of knowing, a body of knowledge. Scientists use two forms of inquiry: discovery science: Describes natural structure and processes: hypothesis based science: Tentative answers to a well framed questions; an idea that can be tested: should be specific, usually if, then statements. Failure to falsify a hypothesis does not prove it. It now works: you replace your flashlight bulb, supports the hypothesis that your bulb was burnt out, but it does not prove it, the bulb could be in wrong.
