Document Summary

Last time we took a look at bite mark impressions and forensic odontology. One of forensics" oldest techniques (and one of the most used) Anthony bertillia - body measurements for criminology. He famously used fingerprints in the famous 1800s case of the mona lisa theft. We can now take fingerprints off of skin (not only off of surfaces) Today we are going to look at a form of impression evidence that is not always though of in that way: fingerprints. Understand 2 sets of things going on: skin and ridges. We have this duo-layer skin: dermis (thick) and epidermis (thin) These are the actual ridge structures of the skin. These start becoming distinct even in utero (even with twins) Ridge fragments - based on how the dermis and epidermis form. It"s an impression because it"s an impression of the oils, dirts, sweat, etc. that builds up on the ridges of the surface of the skin.
