These early people were living amongst an already settled landscape. Then a drought came- joseph went down and became one of the royal courts with the help of the pharaoh. New pharaoh came and he wasn"t familiar with the tribe. He used the hebrews as slaves by this new pharaoh. The next thing that happens is the birth of moses.
