Document Summary
Mendel"s work with sweet peas: noticed that previous theory of blended inheritance was not reality o. All offspring were purple: bred hybrids with each other. Counted number of offspring with purple flowers and number with white flowers. Gregor mendel"s five element model: parents transmit factors (genes) to offspring. Individuals receive two copies of each factor , one from each parent (one on each gamete) Factors vary and lead to different flavors or outcomes (alleles) They were all yellow and round (phenotype: the f2 generation showed four different phenotypes. Not always the same phenotype as one of the parental types. If traits were not independent, there would only be two types of resultant offspring (parental phenotypes) Example: you would only find yellow/smooth or green/wrinkly peas; there would be no yellow/wrinkled or green/smooth peas: sets of results don"t get passed on together.
