Coevolution when a species evolves due to interactions with another species. When two or more organisms interact in more or less permanent relationships. Scientists use lichen as an indicator or air pollution in a given area. Three part symbioses: two kinds of fungus and a photosynthetic organism (green algae/cyanobacteria). Most are usually a blend of an ascomycete or a basidiomycete that work together the photosynthetic organism. You can"t separate the three parts when together. Indian pipe: parasitic flowering plant that feeds on the mycelia of fungus that grow underneath them. This plant has lost all ability to photosynthesize. Some of the most common ones are nematodes (roundworms). The egg hatches and takes residence in the human"s digestive tract. Exists by eating the food the person"s eating. Highly variable: range from bacteria to protist and worms. Some can remain in the host"s body for their entire lifecycle and some can even be passed from mother to child.
