What did the following people contribute to the field of microbiology. Leeuwenhoek: discovered a previously unknown micro world with microscope, reported most types of microorganisms. Linnaeus: developed taxonomic system, naming plants and animals. Redi: maggots experiments, animals come only from other animals. Needham: life force" causes inanimate matter to spontaneously come to life. Spallanzani: also heated water but caused contradiction on spontaneous generation. Pasteur: swan-necked flasks , microbes in the water come from air. Achaea: no ppg cell wall, live in extreme places, don"t cause disease. Both: prokaryotic, no nuclei, genes aren"t surrounded be membrane, reproduce asexually. Fungi: eukaryotic, has nucleus and cell walls, include molds and yeasts in food. Protozoa: single-celled eukaryotes, close to animals in nutritional needs and cellular structure, have flagella, cilia and pseudopod (flow in the direction of travel), live in water and inside animals. Algae: photosynthetic eukaryotes simple in reproductive structures; multicellular in the ocean, unicellular in all kinds of water.
