Document Summary

Vi(1) the purpose of this experiment was to explore some of the basic phenomena of electrostatics. To do this we connected an electrometer to a faraday pail and to the ground plane. Then we charged the proof plane and inserted it into the pail and touched the pail. We then removed the proof plane and recorded the electrometer reading v1. We discharged the pail but not the proof plane and then repeated the previous step and recorded the electrometer reading v2. With v1 and v2 we were able to calculate p. p = 1 v2/v1 p (1) = 1- 0. 2/2. 3 = 0. 913. Least decimal of answer is same power of 10 as uncertainty. Vi(3) in this section we observed charge conservation using two charge producers, one blue and one white. First we rubbed both charge producers together then inserted them one at a time into faraday pail without touching the pail bottom, recording the electrometer reading for each.
