Coming to class someone asks you out, think about what they look like, who they are, internally you may sweat, your heart beats faster- contents constantly change. Meditation- techniques to produce quiet, receptive mood, decrease heart rate, decrease blood pressure, respiration, and tension. Psychoactive (recreational) drug effects: narcotics- opiates relieve pain, heroin, morphine (sense of euphoria), sedatives- decreases cns activity; induce sleep, barbiturates, non barbiturates, stimulants- increases cns activity, caffeine, nicotine, cocaine, and amphetamines, hallucinogens- distort perceptual experiences, lsd, pcp, ecstasy. 5: alcohol- relaxed euphoria, anxiety reduction, lowering of inhibitions. Cannabis- relaxed euphoria, enhanced awareness, marijuana, and hashish. We sleep a third of our lives. Immune system works better when you sleep than when you don"t. Sleep helps put things into long term memory. Sleep allows neurons to do repair work. Sleep psychosis- means you don"t know what reality is.
