Faith healers are people who use the power of suggestion, prayer and faith in a higher power to promote healing. E. g. the belief in divine healing in pentecostal churches. Unclear whether and how faith healing works. Acceptance of one"s health of life situation. Redefining ailments as less serious or less medical. Most religious groups favor a combination of religious practices and professional medical care in treating health problems. Doctrings of a few religious groups prohibit their members from seeking modern medical tx ex) christian science church. Controversial when concerning child"s rights to medical tx against parent"s religious beliefs. Religious is associated with positive levels of health and lower mortality in several studies. Promotes good health through encouraging positive health lifestyles practices and discouraging harmful habits like drinking or smoking. Provides comfort and social support in times of stress. Remember in the stress literature we talked about providing care and slowness of the shortening of telomeres.
