Beginning in the late 18th century, revolutions began across the western world. Largest were america (1776) and france (1789), but also occurred in haiti (1791) People are concentrated and people are living in city where there is a lot of commerce. Enlightenment: a european intellectual movement of the late 17th and 18th centuries emphasizing reason and individualism rather than tradition. It was heavily influenced by 17th-century philosophers such as descartes, locke, and newton, and its prominent exponents include kant, goethe, voltaire, In addition to advances in science and the arts, philosophy moved forward, particularly as it related to government and society. John locke was an english thinker who helped people conceptualize natural rights. Natural rights are those not contingent upon the laws, customs, or beliefs of any particular culture or government, and therefore universal and inalienable (i. e. , rights that cannot be repealed or restrained by human laws).
