Seemingly the most devastating because not able to connect to others sometimes not able to connect to parents. More prevalent in boys than girls (along with all learning disorders) People thought that autism was caused by mothers who were cold and not loving towards their child (refrigerator mothers) Kids with autism seem to be rigid and nonresponsive from an early age. Way that autistic children are impaired is different. Hard time picking up on social nuances and cues. Restricted patterns of interest: different than how kids get obsessed with things, it is the only thing these kids are interested in. Different forms of playing may not be able to interact and pretend play with them but just organize them.
