Document Summary

All the world"s a stage, and all the men and women merely players william shakespeare. What makes a good actor: nothing. Challenges for the actor: to make the characters believable, physical acting- using the entire instrument. Theater does not have that ability: synthesis and integration: combining inner and outer skills. Why act: acting is about communication. Understanding plays, characters, and concepts: body. Rhetorical tradition: presentational style, large exaggerated gestures and expressions, emphasis on vocal delivery. Father of modern acting: actors are given words on a page, actors must create a living, visceral being from the text, realism the stage is becoming more real. Huge shift from presentational style: the group theatre. Makes it seem like this is the first time that the lines had ever been spoken, rather than rehearsed. Affective memory: uses real life situations to create a sense of emotion on stage, actually getting getting in character.
