We as americans also do not feel the need to express our self. As typical americans, we feel the need to fit in. Yet, without the art of theater, we lose the art of expression and culture of story telling. They"re both old as hell and both have progressed minimally. Theater has been around for roughly 2,500 years: why is it still around. Actors, directors, designers the guy that sweeps the stage are all engaged in. A medium of live, visceral action: theater changes people. In order for it to exist it must have: actor, passage of time, a structured event, space, audience, time. With the given requirement, a sporting event could very well be considered theater although it is not seen as traditional. Community- a small, social unit that shares common values: something about the small town atmosphere that keeps people around .
