Material & nonmaterial cultures: material: items, objects, tangible things, nonmaterial: intangible norms, values, beliefs, languages. Elements or building blocks of culture (nonmaterial; used as components of culture): language/semantics. Meanings to words and changing word meanings. Words have meanings because we give them meanings. Clinton vs. trump: both use different forms of rhetoric and language. Dominant, sub-, and counter-cultures: dominant: mainstream, pop culture, majority, widely accepted, subculture: baptists, evangelical, catholic (under religious, counterculture: hipsters, change the course, 60s movements and music, specific message that pushes an aspect of dominant/subcultures.
