Defined as body of ideas reflecting the social needs of an inficidal group, class and culture. Also defined as belief systems and the principles inside these systems even if these ideas are unrecognized and thereby perhaps questions. I. e. freedom, justice, fairness that indicate a particular value system. Use the ideographs in conjunction with what information you have about the author to make an informed decision about which ideological groups s/he may be affiliated with or how that may shape the argument. Decide how the values being endorse in a text might function to persuade or dissuade the intended audience. A set of values shared by a particular group and often established by those in power. Ex. the idea of meritocracy is a value that has been passed down in american ideology. Often perceived as common sense, even if values were constructed for a particular purpose. Assumptopns about human nature indicating hertersecual is the norm.
