PHIL 322 Lecture Notes - Lecture 1: Kpmg, Pricewaterhousecoopers
Document Summary
The hong kong protests have been occurring in opposition to the fugitive offenders amendment bill created by the mainland chinese government. Protestors wish for the bill to be withdrawn while demanding investigations into police brutality/misconduct, releasing arrested protestors, retracting from calling the protests riots , and for the chief executive to resign, for universal suffrage. While the protests have attracted many, the local and mainland governments passed the bill june 9, 2019, but eventually suspended it six days later with an official withdraw on october 23rd. There are still riots occurring to this day due to the rest of their demands not being met. Hk businesses are pressured by chinese officials to refrain from engaging with/condemning protestors. China is removing heads of major firms (i. e. ceo of cathay pacific airways ltd. ) because of lower-level employees partaking in protests.
