Bandura (1977): we learn from observation or direct instruction, even in absence of direct reinforcement. Modern roles are getting better than classic ones, but still see stereotypes in kids" toys, etc. Godfather: emotional women, stone-cold men with all the power. Enduring behaviors/ideas/attitudes/traditions shared by a large group of people and transmitted from one generation to the next. Giving priority to one"s own goals over group goals, and defining one"s identity in terms of personal attributes rather than group identification. Western cultures, america, emphasize qualities that make them unique. Asian, south american cultures, find value in place within their group. Need for personal space develops over time (no baby has the need for personal space) but depending on culture they"ll grow up needing it differently.
