Document Summary

Eukaryotic cells divide by mitosis and meiosis- their cell cycle is divided into two parts - Interphase is made up of- g1, s, g2 phases. S phase- dna is synthesized and dna replication occurs. Mitosis- division of the nucleus of the cell, occurring in prophase, metaphase, anaphase and telophase and cytokinesis. Somatic cells- non gamete cells, the other 22, also called autosomal chromosomes. Mitotic cell reproduction is used for- growth, repair and replacement in multicellular organisms. Meiosis- produces haploid gamete cells, meiosis 1 separates the homologous chromosomes into. 2 daughter cells and meiosis 2 separates the sister chromatids so that each of the 4 daughter cells has one copy of each chromosome. Crossing over- occurs in prophase 1, non-sister chromatids of homologous chromosomes exchange genetic material. A life cycle- is the entire sequence of events in an organism"s life from the adult stage of one generation to the adult stage of the next generation.
