When south america breaks off from africa it hit a rock, and causes all the mountains to get folded up along the east part of south america. The biggest basin is the amazon basin, orinoco basin, rio de la plata basin. It"s there because of extensive rainfall that occurs there due to ocean currents. Orinoco river, amazon river, rio de la plata river, corresponds to the basins. It is very common in the amazon basin. It was inaccessible because it"s such a big forest with population so far away. Government created roads would deforest for logging, and then farmers were able to do more deforestation so that they can plant and create agriculture. Today deforestation is large and for soy beans for cattle ranch. Venezuelan is the only country in this region. Spanish is all along the border by andes mountains. Highly syncretic (native and african beliefs blending in with christianity.
