Document Summary

Points to know on southwest asia and north africa. Main desert is the sahara desert, which is located in north africa. Deserts are here because no ocean currents bring any moisture to the region; lowest areas of precipitation in the world. Nile river (biggest in egypt), jordan river, euphrates river, tigris river. There is vegetation right along the rivers only. They play a large role on the cities which are all located on rivers. Iran (almost half its country is in mountains) and turkey both sit up on a high. Turkey, iran and lebanon (largest forests, known for its cedar trees) used to. Areas used to have extensive forest but not they have very little forests. Not enough soil for the trees to grow back. When there was rain the soil and mud would all slide down the mountains creating rocky landscape instead of soil for trees. Main farming regions are along rivers (mediterranean farming).
