Attendance to treatment programs drops significantly after a few months. There is a sizeable amount of people that don"t adhere. Sociocultural factors: gender (more mixed), ethnicity, education, and income are poor predictors of adherence. Where these can interfere, these alone are not a good predictor of whether or not someone may adhere. But, it can impact some of it. Having the support of family and friends, being in a good mood, and having optimistic expectations promote compliance. Job satisfaction, number of patients seen per week, communication style all predict patient adherence. Job satisfaction, # of patients - can impact how you display confidence, empathy. Keeping regimens as simple and short in duration as possible. Easier to do this than tailoring lifestyle. Tailoring treatment to fit the patient"s lifestyle.
