Violence as a behavior to act out negative feelings. Women who leave are at a 75% greater risk of being killed compared to if they had stayed. "this is not supposed to happen to me" Victim"s actions can make the abuser change. Abuser may not allow victim to work, go to school, see people. Batterer threatens to abuse or kill children. Battered women charged with failure to protect child. May not have resources to provide for children outside of the environment they are already in. Pressure from friends and family to stay. Not all children are effected the same way. Can effect the tasks or milestones in the child"s development. The younger the child the more harmful the exposure. 85% if children ages 6-12 who witnessed ipv had moderate to severe ptsd symptoms.
