Presentation rate affects the primacy effect, but not the recency effect. Memory for items at the beginning of the list (but not the end) is associated with activation in the hippocampus. Left temporal/parietal lesion resulting from a motorcycle accident. Limited span for auditory material (letter or digit span of 2 items or less. Could form and retrieve new memories for events. Heard 3 letters, asked to count for some account of time and then recall letters.
