Psy 101:intro to psychology: lecture 7: thinking and language ii. We tend to learn language at a very young age. By the time babies are about 4 months old they can recognize differences in speech sound. This stage is also known as the receptive language. This experiment was conducted by(stager & werker) Babies also prefer to look at a face that matches sound(means that babies can read lips) At 7 months they start to adapt and segment spoken words into individual words. Ability for a baby to produce words. At this stage they can recognize noun-verb differences. This stage is also responsible for the babbling stage. Stage where infant spontaneously utters various sounds. In ways that regular audible and hearing infants make noises, deaf infants(once they can sign) can babble using signing. Is the stage where kids between years 1-2 can speak in mostly single words.
