Ice shelves (there are connected to ice sheets but floating on ocean) This is the main contributor to sea level rise so far. Northern part of the olympic peninsula is rising. Means it will experience less sea level rise than other locations. These influences + spotty data means it"s been hard to track global sea level accu. Tide gauges are measuring sticks or floats in wells. Instrument emits a short radar flash and measures the time-of-flight of its times per second. Most accurate satellite measurements: 8. 25cm rise in the last 23 years. Thermal expansion: 60% accurately f its reflection from earth. It"s the primary contributor so far to sea level rise. Many instruments are used to measure ocean heat content. Argo floats: for monitoring ocean heat content (2000m depth) Mountain glaciers currently contribute 25% to rising sea levels. Sea level rise is a very slow process. Takes an extremely long time to melt greenland/antarctica.
