Cell types are defined by transcription factors. Transcription factors can make a stem cell: induced pluripotent stem (ips) cells. 4 transcription factors: oct4, sox2, myc, klf4. Generation of ips cells is turning back the clock of differentiation. Cells have less potential to form other dell types. ips cell formation. Cells have more potential to form other dell types. For some tissue types, researchers have discovered how to make the tissue in culture from stem cells. Bone marrow transplant leukemia and lymphoma cancers. Generation of functional human pancreatic cells in vitro. Idea: inject stem cells into the right place, and let them replace missing or defective cells. 21st century snake oil (fda was created because of snake oil). Stem cell snake oil: stem cells are magical, put stem cells into the right spot, and they will magically become the cells you need. We still have a lot to learn about stem cells.
