• Earned money by cooking.
• Mother did not attend school and was working instead.

Bracero Program
• 1942-1964
• US agreement with Mexican government to hire men to work the fields.
1953
• Father joined Bracero program.
1955
• Mother went back to Mexico.
1959
• Mother and father married.
• Father had green card.
1960
• Older and only brother was born in Mexico.
1964
• End of bracero program.
1967
• Mother, brother and me got green cards and became legal residents.
• Never lived in the US.
1967-1998
• Life in Salinas.
