Communication: each act of transmitting information (professor of amsterdam) Information: thoughts, ideas, emotions (ie: giving flowers, blushing after getting flowers) Types of communication: spoken words, signs, symbols, media, nonverbal. Media communication: only talking about newspapers, books, radio, music. Question 1: if a tree speaks in the forest and nobody hears . Does communication require a listener or recipient in order for it to be communication: are we communicating if there is no one to receive it, sending a message isn"t communication. Receiving a message isn"t communication: communication is a process of sending and receiving. Does communication require intent: ie: leaving a store because they didn"t have what you wanted, didn"t intend to send a message, but person behind counter figured out they didn"t have what you wanted. Is it possible to not communicate: we can"t not communicate, ie: public transportation. We pretend to ignore everyone on the bus/plane. I see you staring out the window, or listening to music.
