About chromosomes, females have xx, males have xy. Medical conditions that can make gender more ambiguous: intersex conditions. Sex may appear to be very simple, but it is not the case (compared to gender, sex is less complicated) Gender resides at a societal level (psychological one, not individual) Gender identity: self-perception as a man or woman, individual level. Strongly identify with both masculinity and femininity = androgynous. Gender identity = how people perceive themselves. Trait (stable characteristic that doesn"t change: gender identity individual difference, can be activated or trigged depending on situation.
