If adolescents perceive that their friends engage in violent actions, and that they approve of violence: then violent content in media will resonate. It fits with their lived experience (context-content convergence: as a result, there will be a stronger effect of exposure on aggressive outcomes. If the opposite occurs, and adolescents do not perceive these aggressive norms: then violent media doesn"t resonate, and there may actually be a decrease in aggressive outcomes, or no change. Norms as mediators: exposure to media violence increases the availability and accessibility of aggression- related information in memory, therefore, if one is exposed to more media violence: Individuals will perceive that their friends engage in more violent behaviors. Individuals will perceive that their friends are more accepting of violence: and as a result, an individual will be more likely to engage in aggressive behavior. Norms as mediators and moderators: most complex relationship. Longitudinal survey of 943 adolescents (ages 10-14) at two points in time.
