In 1989, poland"s standard of living was about that of western europe. Poland joined nato in 1999, the eu in 2004. Putin begins to move soldiers (no military insignia, we just know they"re russia) into crimea. Referendum on joining russia is held on march 16. But a lot of people did not vote. International community did not recognize these results. Russian black sea naval fleet has been stationed in crimea since soviet era. Greater share of black sea resources now belong to russia. Ukraine could"ve improved it"s own economic supply, but now russia has claimed area :( Overwhelming evidence that russia was sending more military personnel and military equipment (missile launchers, etc. ) w/o military insignia. Feb 12, 2015: agreement on ceasefire between presidents poroshenko, putin, hollande, and chancellor merkel. No independent countries on the border of ukraine. Up until feb 12, 2015, there has been civil war in ukraine. Sanctions have pushed russia to alter their economic relations.
