President is clearly losing control of the situation, and the next day (feb: flees the country. In response to yanukovych fleeing the country, a new pro-eu temp president is elected by parliament. By march 1, russia had taken over crimea, ukraine"s southern-most province. Annexes crimea by march 18 (very rapid) Referendum on joining russia is held on march 16.
