Screening for music - evoked autobiographical memories (meams) Thirty 30s excerpts from billboard pop & r&b charts chosen randomly from period when subject was 7 - 19 years old. Familiarity, autobiographical salience, valence, visual image salience, & music preference ratings. Weakly & strongly autobiographical ratings are followed - up with several forms & open - ended response options. On average, 50% of the songs are unfamiliar. On average, 30% of the songs evoke some sort of autobiographical memory. The 3 categories of songs allow us to separate effects of : Autobiographical salience (familiar & autobiographically salient, vs familiar but not autobiographically salient) Some of the follow - up questions. Does it remind you of a specific . Subjects were also given the opportunity to provide written descriptions as they saw fit. A sentimental longing or wistful affection for the past . A way for people to live in the past instead of dealing with the present & the future.
