Document Summary

Fast and slow: depends on speed of contraction and energy source. Slow twitch and fast twitch- body can provide oxygen for muscles for a long period of time. So type 1 and type 2a are less prone to fatigue with activity. Type 1 and type 2a muscles are less prone to fatigue because it is easy to get oxygen! This is in contrast with type 2b fibers, which are the fastest twitching fibers we have- the process does not involve oxygen. The name doesn"t have oxy in it, it has glycolytic in it. The body relies on anaerobic, doesn"t require oxygen but instead it requires sugars. Glycolytic: very small amount of sugar stored in muscles to feed these kinds of muscles. Since they fatigue quickly, you do not see high intensity sprints for activities that last more than a minute or a minute and a half.
