Presents strongest possible case for client (consistent with ethical rules) Answers: the defendant has a constitutional right to counsel . Justice is done by system not by individuals. Adversarial system cannot work unless both the government and accused have adequate representation. Must provide zealous defense even if the client is guilty. May not incriminate client or assist government conflict the client.
