Because they injured you: ran into you with your car, plastic surgery went wrong medical malpractice. You want compensation: damage to reputation slander or libel. Certain matters have to be involved in order for a case to be included in a category of jurisdiction (ex) federal court: involve federal laws or citizens from different states: subject matter, personal. Sue them where they live, or where the matter/injury occurred. Venue: the question of which federal court, usually, the plaintiff chooses, but the defendant can change the venue. Pleading: file papers into the court explaining your case pleading . Say what you expect to prove in the case. The court sometimes allows a punitive time for the parties to examine each other"s evidence outside of court: interrogatory. Allows you to question another party"s witness under oath.
